clariSEA Rapid Detox Charcoal Exfoliant - review

We received this in a recent Violet Box and I've been using it consistently for six weeks now. It's only a sample size but the little pot's still going strong and I'm beginning to think I'll never finish it!

I used to love seemingly never-ending products like this (less effort and $ required because less purchases needed) but now they tend to annoy me. For a beauty-junkie, there's a lot of joy in finishing something off and therefore giving yourself permission to open or buy something new.

clariSEA claims/product details:
  • An all natural exfoliant that vacuums up impurities from deep within the pores, using naturally detoxifying ingredients
  • Activated Bamboo Charcoal Powder immediately absorbs and removes dirt and excess oil
  • Pacific & Himalayan Sea Salt attack acne-causing bacteria on the surface of the skin
  • Ingredients: Sea Salt (Pacific Ocean), Mineral Salt (Himalayan Pink), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Nut Powder, Activated Bamboo Charcoal Powder
  • RRP $18 for 113g

Verdict

I like this but it's not the best product of this nature that I've used. You can choose to use it with water alone or add it to your cleanser (I prefer using it with a cleanser) and it scrubs nicely for a very short time before the salt dissolves and you end up with salt in your mouth (that's not a complaint, just a comment).

I feel it does have some exfoliating action and leaves my skin feeling fresher and brighter after use: that exfoliating action could be improved if the product didn't dissolve so quickly.

It's also gentle enough for sensitive skin - and maybe it's a bit too gentle for me. I really like scrubs that feel like they get in there and do the job, and this one doesn't quite hit the mark for me.

My other issue is: it's messy. As you can see from the above photo, salt grains come out everywhere and stick where you don't want them to. There's salt all over the cap and tub, and even though I've only removed a bit of the seal, it's still hard to control how much you're tipping out (invariably not enough, and then too much - I never seem to get the right amount). I'm not sure what the full-size packaging is like, but I really think it needs a cap with a small hole so that it's easier to control the amount of product that comes out each time.

I like it but I wouldn't buy it.
