The Cosmetic Kitchen Raw Cacao Chocolate Rock Salts - review

I received a few products from The Cosmetic Kitchen when I was subscribed to Lust Have It. I've quite liked all the products I've received from the brand, particularly the cream highlighter (reviewed here), and there's only one product that I sent to a better home: an electric blue eyeshadow that wouldn't have suited me no matter what I did with it.

When I opened these a few days ago, I was hoping for a better experience than the one I got from using the Urban Skincare bath salts I had on hand. Fortunately I was given one, and I'll happily speed through this packet over the last five days of our holiday, since we don't have a bath at home and if I don't use these now, I don't see when I'll be able to.

Anyhoo. Let's check out the product.

The Cosmetic Kitchen claims/product details:
  • Indulge and heal with a detoxifying bath soak
  • Contains double chocolate: raw cacao and cocoa butter
  • Chocolate is a potent natural anti-oxidant that blocks free radicals
  • RRP $18.50 AUD for 200g

Ingredients:

Rock salt, raw cacao powder

Verdict

As soon as you open these and tip some into your hand, you can smell the chocolate. I gave these a smell and liked the scent so much that I shoved a handful under my husband's nose. He looked like he wanted to eat them.

I use a generous handful of these and scatter them in the bath as it's filling, and they dissolve quickly and well. Unfortunately I couldn't detect the chocolate scent once I'd gotten in the bath (I'd hoped that some of the scent would rise off the surface of the water), but I had the packet handy so I gave that a couple of extra sniffs hehe.

Even though I'm liking these, I honestly couldn't tell that I'd put anything in the bath once they'd dissolved and I was in the water. I think the salt does help your skin feel a little cleaner after the bath (I guess like swimming in the ocean); however you need to use quite a few of them to get that effect.

That aside, these do feel special and add to the bath experience, which is what you want from products like these. I'm looking forward to my daily baths, in part because I get to use these salts.

While I'm enjoying using these, I wouldn't spend almost $20 on a packet of bath salts. That's of course personal preference, and I guess the good thing is that the pack is quite large so the salts will last a while.

In sum, these salts are fun to use and they feel like a treat, which of course has a lot to do with the chocolate smell.

Now if only my husband would wake up so I can get into the bathroom and start running the bath!
