Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera - review

Two weeks after I introduced the products from my Alpha-H With Love gift set (reviewed here), I started introducing the products from this one.

So far I've only been using the eye cream and this cleanser (plus the Alpha-H Liquid Gold, an old favourite of mine) and I'll start using the other items from this set over the next couple of weeks.

I like to introduce things slowly, just so I can work out what each thing is doing and whether it works for my skin - otherwise it'd be harder to write separate reviews because I wouldn't know exactly what each product added (or didn't add) to my skincare routine.

This is a jam-packed little set and I'm glad I chose it - in part because it includes a larger version of the Alpha-H Liquid Gold Rejuvenating Cream that I fell in love with from the moment I started using it recently (I've reviewed it here).

Sets like this are a good introduction to a brand's products because you get to try a little of everything and work out exactly what you want to buy in full size (you're bound to prefer some products over others), and I may well buy a couple more Alpha-H sets in the near future since the range agrees with my skin.

Alpha-H claims/product details:
  • A creamy three-in-one cleanser that's rich in vitamin e and aloe vera
  • Completely removes all face and eye makeup while helping to correct the skin’s natural pH balance
  • Effectively replaces the need for an eye makeup remover, face wash and toner
  • Gentle and safe to use over the eye area
  • Repairs a stripped and impaired acid mantle
  • Soothing cleansing milk that's safe to use on all skin types
  • Does not remove the skin's naturally occurring oils and moisture
  • Reduces moisture evaporation from skin surface
  • Brings comfort to dry, tight and irritated skin
  • To use: apply one pump of cleanser onto a dampened face; massage over the entire face and remove with a warm damp face cloth; remember to double cleanse in the evenings.
  • RRP $43.95 AUD for 200ml, but do shop around

Verdict

I've just been reading some online reviews of this cleanser and am quite surprised by how popular it seems to be, given that I don't think it's that amazing and it doesn't hold a candle to the anti-ageing cleanser I tried from Alpha-H recently (reviewed here).

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing I really don't like about it - it's just that I don't think it's that great.

It's a white cream with a light, fresh scent, and it feels nice and soothing on the skin. It does an ok job of removing makeup and grime, but it doesn't do this as well as the other Alpha-H cleanser I own and my skin doesn't have that same clean and smooth feeling after using it.

What I love about the other cleanser is that it leaves my skin feeling fresh, clean, soft and supple, and I think it has a brightening and resurfacing effect too. This one does none of those things, and while it does cleanse well enough, I don't feel that I can rely on this as my only cleanser so I use it for a first cleanse and then use another product to really get in there and give my face a good wash.

The good news is that it's quite gentle and it doesn't irritate my sometimes-sensitive skin, so that's a plus. It's also reasonably priced - particularly considering the large size of the bottle and the fact that you only need to use a little each time - so that's another plus.

All in all, there's nothing wrong with this cleanser and I'll use it, I just don't think it's that great. Maybe it's just that I need something with more punch.
