Toni & Guy Cleanse Dry Shampoo - review

I've had this product for ages and it's more than half gone, but I'm only now coming to review it. It's taken me ages to work out what I think of the product, which tells me it's inconsistent so that's never a good sign.

I bought it at half price because I'd gone into the chemist to buy a dry shampoo and was thrilled when I saw this one on sale: I've heard a lot of good things about Toni & Guy as a brand, so I was expecting something good.

Unfortunately I was disappointed and I wouldn't try anything from the brand's dry shampoo range again.

Toni & Guy claims/product details:
  • Gently cleanses and adds body without weighing hair down
  • Creates second day volume and freshness
  • In a few simple spritzes, greasy strands are left clean and full
  • To use: shake well before use; spray on dry hair at the roots and brush through with a comb or fingers
  • RRP $15.99 for 147g

Verdict

There's a lot I don't like about this product and it's not one I would recommend.

First, the smell. A lot of people complain about this and I agree with them: the smell is overpowering and it's not a nice scent - I smell something sickly sweet, like fake candy or fairy floss. If you don't like scented products, steer clear of this one because the smell is off-putting and I don't like using it for that reason alone.

In any event, I don't think it does a very good job anyway. It's not good at making your hair feel clean and I need to use a tonne of it to get the job done. So while it's better value than other dry shampoos in theory because the can is so large, in practice you're using twice the amount each time so the value isn't there.

Also, it leaves my hair looking dull, powdery and coated, and the product really weighs it down and makes it dry and hard to brush. I hate how it makes my hair look and feel, which is one of the reasons it's been sitting around for ages and not getting used.

On top of that, it's not a consistent product. Sometimes it seems to make my hair look a lot less greasy and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't worked out why it doesn't do the same thing each time (eg, it's not as though I've been using different haircare that might be affecting this one - I've been using the same products), but needless to say I'm not a fan of anything that's this unreliable.

All in all, this isn't a great product and I don't recommend it. It's not consistent and it leaves a residue in my hair. Foo. I was expecting more from a brand like this one.
