little white truths

This is one of those products that I've had for ages - indeed, I'm more than halfway through my bottle as we speak - but I haven't wanted to review it because I've been desperately trying  to make myself like it as much as so many others do.

But unfortunately I just can't buy into the hype: it doesn't do what I want it to and I've ruined my makeup countless times by spritzing it and winding up with a greasy face. As someone with dry, dehydrated skin, it's so rare that I find any product too greasy - but this is on me and that's why I can't wait to finish my bottle and move on to something else. More on all that below.

Verdict

I've had so many issues with this product that I almost don't know where to start!

First, the packaging itself. My spray is too forceful and directed, which means that I need to do more sprays than I would like to cover my whole face, and also means that I need to hold it further away than I normally would - otherwise I risk lifting my makeup with the force of the spray (which has happened more than once). So there's that.

Also, when I first got it, I was a little too heavy handed with it (as someone with dry skin, I do tend to mist a lot of product because it helps with hydration), which turned out really badly: it lifted my makeup and merged it together in blotches on my skin - I guess it's the oil that dissolves the makeup and moves it - to the point where I had to wash my face and apply my makeup again. So go easy with this one!

On top of that, no matter how careful I am with application and how little I use, this does not give me a dewy finish: what I get instead is a straight-up oily one, and it looks so bad that I need to powder my face something chronic just to manage the grease. The result is that my skin somehow still looks oily but also over-powdered, so I can't use this on days when I'm going out because I don't want to look like an oil-slick and I can't seem to find any way around the problem.

On that, because I have dry skin, it's so rare that I find anything that's too greasy for me - normally, the more grease, the better! I'm struggling to remember the last time I felt that a product was too heavy for my face, but I honestly can't think of one. Normally I'm someone who can't put enough oil on my skin, but this product overdoes things even when used sparingly.

Also, despite the level of oil, this doesn't feel like it hydrates my skin - so I can't rely on it for hydration when I'm at home and it doesn't matter how greasy I look. This makes me think that the product is probably sitting on top of my skin, rather than being absorbed, which makes sense when I consider how greasy I look after application.

So all in all, I don't think this product meets any of its claims and I've given it a 'disappointing products' tag for that reason. I was really expecting to love it, given that most people seem to and given that it's meant to give you a dewy, radiant finish - which is always what I'm after - but this isn't dewy on me: it's pure grease and I'd recommend testing it first if you can before blind-buying it like I did. Thank golly it wasn't too expensive!

Do let me know if you've tried this and what you think of it if so. I'm even wondering whether I got a bad batch because I can't imagine how others don't find this too greasy as well. It's possible!

Blurgh. Can't wait to get through this and use something else. Might even have to Project Pan it to make myself use it up.
