Soap & Glory, The Righteous Butter - review

This is one of those products that I've tried and tried to love, but for some reason I just don't. I was super happy to receive this travel-sized tub from friends in a fun bundle of Mecca Maxima minis recently, and I really hoped that this time I would finally see the light and understand what all the fuss was about.

Not so unfortunately. I don't think it's a bad product, but it just doesn't grab me for reasons I'll go into below. Plus the famous scent isn't something I'm in love with either.

But this of course puts me squarely in the minority: this is a cult product and most people seem to love it! Hoh well, you can't win 'em all ; )

Verdict

This isn't a bad product, but as mentioned above, I don't think it's a great one and I don't see what all the fuss is about. While it's not so disappointing that I hate it, it's so over-hyped that my expectations have been too high on the three separate occasions that I've tested it - and for this reason I've given it a 'disappointing products' tag.

It's a thick white cream that I would indeed class as a body butter, but it's got a slightly whipped, mousse-like texture that makes it feel less heavy on the skin. Some might prefer this but I like my body butters to be really rich and nourishing, so the texture doesn't quite hit the mark for me because my dry skin prefers the hard stuff.

As for the scent, I love that it's been labelled Soap & Glory's 'Pink' fragrance because it honestly does smell pink! I can't really explain that but whenever I whiff it, I do think that it's what the colour pink would smell like if it had a scent.

And it's not a scent that grabs me. I know that so many people love it, but for me there's almost something a plastic about it that makes me think of fairy floss and barbies, or a cheap perfume that you'd buy in the chemist for a song. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone who loves it with that comment, but that's just my opinion and of course fragrance is so personal and everyone's different : )

As for the product itself, I don't think it absorbs well and it seems to sit on top of my skin so I never feel that it's sinking in and delivering moisture where my dry skin needs it most. Indeed, my body always feels dry in the morning after I've used this (I shower in the evenings and apply my body creams then), so I need to re-hydrate with something else when I wake up. I don't think I've ever had to do that with a body cream before!

On top of that, the cream has a sticky finish that lingers and the scent lingers too, which isn't a good thing if you don't like the fragrance to start with. Plus I feel like I need to use so much product per application, so despite the reasonable price tag, it doesn't work out to be an inexpensive product for me on a price-per-use basis.

In sum, I obviously don't love this cream and don't recommend it. While it's a cult product for many, it just doesn't work for me and I'd suggest testing it before falling for the hype and making a blind purchase : )
