Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturiser (Fair to Medium) - review

I received this self-tanning cream in a recent subscription box and I was pleased to see it because I'd run out of my self-tanner and Jergens has some great body creams that I've tried before so I was expecting to like this one.

Unfortunately I don't think it's very good and I've wound up with a patchy tan when I've used this, so it's not a product I would recommend or try again. More on why below.

Jergens claims/product details:
  • Natural-looking colour that lasts longer than the leading sunless tanner
  • Gradually infuses your skin with a blend of effective moisturisers, antioxidants and vitamin e
  • Colour that's streak-free and hassle-free
  • With our breakthrough patent-pending technology, has no sunless tanner odour
  • Helps keep skin healthy-looking and nourished
  • To use: for best results, use daily as your body lotion; smooth on evenly, allowing several minutes to dry prior to dressing; wash your hands after application
  • RRP $10.99 AUD for 221ml

The product is available in Fair to Medium and Medium to Tan.

My skin is medium in colour and I reckon that the Medium to Tan product may well have been a better match because the colour the Fair to Medium gives is too yellow/golden for me. Given that I don't like the formula, I'm not game to find out!

Verdict

As mentioned above, I don't like this product and it's not one I'm enjoying using for a few reasons.

First, the texture is odd. It's very thick and a touch gluey - and in many ways it reminds me of pudding. Not something I love putting on my skin! What this also means is that it's difficult to spread and it doesn't absorb well, so I wind up using more of this per application than I do other creams. Therefore the product isn't cost-effective.

Next, I don't like the scent. The cream has a sweet smell that's not doing a good job of masking the chemical smell underneath it (it smells like hairspray), so I don't agree that this has 'no sunless tanner odour' because it definitely has an unnatural scent that I don't like.

Last, the results. As mentioned above, this gives me a patchy tan so it isn't a product I can use before exposing my skin on the beach, for example, since I just look wrong when I've used this and it's obvious that I've done a self-tan. And not a good one. Perhaps the patchiness comes in part from the fact that I have trouble spreading this product and getting it to absorb, so if that wasn't an issue, I may be able to get a more even tan from this. But I can't, no matter how hard I try.

On top of that, the colour isn't right for me because the result is too yellow/golden so it looks unnatural on me, and it may be that the Medium to Tan version would have been a better fit. Who knows.

All in all, I don't like this product and I can't recommend it. I'm going through the tube too quickly (meaning it's a relatively costly product), I don't enjoy using it and I don't like the results.

Blurgh.
