Sukin Micellar Cleansing Water - review and photos

I've been using this product for ages now and it's been one of those that I kept forgetting to review because I haven't really 'noticed' it - which tells you that it's neither really good nor really bad.

I bought it a while ago when Sukin was on promotion at Adore Beauty, and I've been using it for months now so it's definitely time to review it before I finish it.

Sukin claims/product details:
  • Removes makeup and cleanses
  • Suitable for waterproof eye makeup
  • Infused with gentle aloe vera to thoroughly remove makeup and dirt build up, while soothing and purifying the complexion
  • A refreshing blend of chamomile and cucumber calms, leaving skin lightly hydrated and clean
  • Leaves skin beautifully soft to the touch
  • Can be left on skin, no need to wash off
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • RRP $10.95 AUD for 250ml, but do shop around

Verdict

I don't hate this product but I don't love it either. Sure it's gentle and cheap - especially if you can find it on sale at one of the big chemists - but it's not super effective and I wouldn't buy it again. Worth noting is that a lot of online reviewers agree with me, so that's something to keep in mind.

It's a fluid product with that familiar Sukin scent. You apply it to a cotton pad and then run it over your face to remove makeup and grime.

From the moment I used it, I could tell that it wasn't a 'heavy duty' product. Some micellars really cut through grease while others don't do the job so well, and this falls in the latter category.

In many ways it's like Bioderma's offering (reviewed here), which doesn't work as well for me as it does for others. Perhaps I'm just not suited to the extra gentle micellars that you can leave on the skin, which is the case for both these products.

I use mine in the evening to remove makeup and it doesn't do a great job of that, so I need to get the rest of my makeup off with something else. Despite the claims, I don't agree that it removes waterproof eye makeup - not even close. It has enough trouble dealing with the 'easy' stuff like tinted moisturiser and face powders.

On the claims: no I don't think it removes makeup or cleanses well; no I don't find it soothing or purifying; no I don't feel that it leaves my skin feeling lightly hydrated and clean (my skin feels the same after use); and no I don't agree that it leaves my skin feeling soft.

Honestly, it's just about as effective as plain old water on my skin and my face feels the same after use as it would have if I'd used plain old water.

I do agree that it's gentle though, so if you have super sensitive skin and don't want to fork out the extra money for Bioderma's offering, you can currently buy this from Priceline for less than seven dollars - so no big loss if you don't love it.

Overall this isn't a bad product but it's not effective enough for me and I think you can do better. Sure it's cheap and you get a whopping 250ml for your money, but my personal favourite budget option is Garnier's version (reviewed here), which I feel is effective while still being gentle.

Ok.
