Lancome Juicy Shaker in Walk the Lime - review and swatches

At the moment I'm lucky enough to be part of a beauty review crew, and I recently received this Lancome Juicy Shaker as my next product to trial.

I was super excited to see it because I'd been itching to try these from the moment they came out, but unfortunately I haven't been blown away.

It's not a bad product, it's just that it hasn't grabbed me and I wouldn't pay full price for it, for reasons I'll touch on below.

Lancome claims/product details:
  • A seriously addictive lip oil with a pillow-soft cushion applicator for a delicious shot of colour with a hint of shine
  • Juicy Shaker’s bi-phase technology delivers the first pigmented lip oil with two distinct phases: the first phase is a transparent oil phase for a comfortable non-sticky shine; the second is the pigment phase for a shot of colour
  • The cocktail blend of four nourishing oils treats your lips like a lip balm
  • Peach kernel oil (a well-known emollient) softens lips, while sweet almond oil conditions and cranberry oil provides rich anti-oxidant properties; muscat rose oil is rich in essential fatty acids and helps soothe lips
  • Instantly the lightweight oil melts into the lips, leaving them soft, radiant and comforted
  • Available in 13 shades and flavours
  • Shake before each use
  • RRP $34 AUD

I do like the concept of the packaging and how the product looks: a cute little cocktail shaker that you'd be happy to whip out in public because it looks fancy at the same time.

It's gimmicky but it's gimmicky in a good way, and I think Lancome really nailed the look and feel of this product. I imagine they're selling well, and they do seem to be an 'it' product of the moment in the beauty community: everyone's talking about them.

The applicator is surprisingly plush and bouncy: it just feels luxe against the lips.

There's a swatch in direct sunlight (you can see it's not a pigmented product, or at least this shade isn't):

I've built the colour up as much as I can below; shot taken in direct sunlight:

Verdict

I don't mind this product but I also don't love it as much as I was expecting to, which may have something to do with the shade I received. While I was able to put aside the fact that this isn't a colour I'd normally wear, I do think this particular shade lacks pigment - and I have seen other reviewers mention that some shades are more pigmented than others.

Walk the Lime is a red/tangerine colour that gives the lips a strawberry tint without shimmer, and the fragrance is indeed lime.

I like the packaging and the concept of the product, and I also like the sponge applicator it comes with: it's surprisingly plush and bouncy, and I enjoy applying the product for that reason alone because it feels beautiful against the lips.

As for the formula, you can tell it's an oil because it does feel a little oily/greasy on the lips, but not in a bad way. What I don't love about the texture is that it's much thinner than anything I'm used to, which may be part of the reason why I don't feel that it's doing anything for my lips in terms of nourishment.

On that, I was surprised to discover that I don't find this product to be particularly hydrating: I mean, it's an oil so you'd think the hydration factor would be there, but it's not for me. I find myself wanting to reach for a balm whenever I use this because my dry lips are left crying out for something more.

Aside from the lack of pigment mentioned above, another issue with the product is that it doesn't last long. I wasn't expecting it to, given the formula, but it's worth mentioning all the same. I think this is another reason why I don't find it to be hydrating enough for me: whatever nourishment exists in the product transfers very quickly, so my lips aren't getting the benefit of it.

All in all, this isn't a bad product but I wouldn't recommend this particular shade. I would still be interested in testing other shades from the range, but this one just doesn't do enough for me - and it definitely doesn't at $34 a pop.

Have you used these? Let me know what you think if so.
